Sam Plecker’s newest release marks a metamorphosis complete. The Los Angeles musician and producer’s transformation began with his departure from the band Vista Kicks, which he co-founded as a teen. From humble beginnings, Sam’s tenure saw them move to Los Angeles and build an international fanbase that begged a constant touring and recording schedule, with Plecker at the helm as producer and engineer. When tensions frayed during the pandemic he departed for the mountains and Sam attempted to continue songwriting and producing for himself as he did before. Instead he found the well worn paths of pop-songcraft and minimalist production left him something to be desired. So he shelved his record and tabled his ambitions as a writer. Throwing himself into the technical side of music production, he left the rural commune in Pulga heading south once again. Soon he was honing his skills with some of LA’s most elite producers (Gus Seyffert , Michael Harris, John Congleton) for a variety of high profile projects, including Roger Waters “Dark Side of the Moon Redux”, Father John Misty, Local Natives, among others. Sam’s new songs see him stepping out from the shadows yet again, using his hard-earned spectral toolchest to work along his own inspiration and every resource at his disposal.
