New Yorker by choice, ‘Fondue Western’ baritone by trade - presents Nothing Like the Night, the new single of his debut album due in the fall. The 2021 Swiss Music Award nominee already offered a taste of things to come with Cry, the LP's first single, shortly after last year's acclaimed EP Slow Drugs. Written in self-quarantine and partially recorded in Sam's mom's attic, the album marks Sam Himself's first long-distance collaboration with longtime producer Daniel Schlett (The War On Drugs, Amen Dunes, DIIV) and mastering engineer Greg Calbi (Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie).
At the outbreak of the pandemic, Sam found himself stranded on tour between his native Switzerland and his chosen home of the past decade, Brooklyn, NY. His shows suddenly canceled and his return to the United States uncertain, Sam spent the lockdown writing new material, holed up at an Airbnb in his hometown of Basel, Switzerland. The resulting batch of songs, recorded in various locations across Switzerland and finalized at producer Schlett's Strange Weather studio in Brooklyn, became Sam's debut album, due out in the fall.
Last year's EP Slow Drugs earned Sam the Swiss National Broadcasting Service’s Best Talent Award and features Josh Werner (bass - Iggy Pop; Ghostface Killah) and Parker Kindred (drums - Jeff Buckley; Elliott Smith) under the direction of mixer and producer Schlett.
