Brighton’s frenetic art-rockers Public Body share brand new single ‘Way, No Way’, out today (April 26th), marking the third reveal from the band’s debut LP ‘Big Mess’, out on June 9th via FatCat Records.
Joylessly gorging on TV (‘Way, No Way’), procrastinating (‘Break From Life’) and ‘saying the wrong thing’ (‘No Constraint’) are all vividly, gleefully skewered tracks from their upcoming record. Repetition and agitation are prized in the music of ‘Big Mess’, its world built from hypnotically repetitive bass-grooves, spidery guitar lines and violent synth stabs.
Detailing their latest effort, frontman Seb Gilmore explained: “I wrote ‘Way, No Way’ when I was isolating with covid for the first time. I decided to rewatch Friends, and cringed out at how tragic the men are. Being stuck at home reminded me of when I was younger living in a rural area with no transport links. Back then I also stayed home and binge watched TV and as result of my lack of movement, got really fat. The song title is actually the name of Ross and Chandler’s high school band. I thought it was a killer name so robbed it”.
Hotly-tipped by tastemakers such as DIY, So Young, Clash and Gigwise, as well as BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq and BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, the five-piece make light of lethargy, neuroticism and boredom with playfully acerbic and riotously fun post-punk, and will be hitting the road this summer on a nationwide UK tour to coincide with the release of their debut album.
Public Body’s ‘Way, No Way’ is out now via FatCat Records and available on all digital platforms.
