Brighton-based sharp-witted art-rockers Public Body announce debut album ‘Big Mess’, set for release June 9th via FatCat Records (Honeyblood, The Twilight Sad, We Were Promised Jetpacks), and share their brand new single ‘No Constraint’, out today (Feb 22nd).
Teaming with the cult alternative label, Public Body’s debut LP ‘Big Mess’ is set to take a wry look at the sedentary, boring or frustrating aspects of modern life, with its world built from hypnotically repetitive bass-grooves, spidery guitar lines and violent synth stabs.
Detailing their upcoming record, frontman Seb Gilmore revealed: “Lyrically this album is self deprecating which is a tad embarrassing because I should probably just sort my life out rather than write a 10-song album about it! Anyway, the reocrd was recorded using a 70’s Woolworths guitar amp and an old Yamaha drum machine. Tone is in the fingers dude".
With major press exposure already from key press champions (DIY, So Young, Clash, Gigwise) as well as regular airplay and plaudits from BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq and BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, Public Body are readying their live show for a busy spring/summer period, having just completed a recent UK tour alongside label-mates TRAAMS, in addition to previous slots with The Cool Greenhouse, Uranium Club and Vintage Crop in recent times.
Speaking ahead of their latest release, the band revealed: “This song is about a dream I had, where my friend Ted told me he didn’t want to be my friend anymore because I was getting too drunk and making a fool of myself. When I told him about this dream he told me that maybe I shouldn’t drink so much because I do make a fool of myself. I’ve been in the shame cube ever since”.
Public Body’s ‘No Constraint’ is out now via FatCat Records and available on all digital platforms.
