Out today (2nd April) - Norwich alt-pop duo PleasureInc. share second EP teaser ‘2:45’ ahead of the release of debut EP Plastic People - due 17th April - and headline tour dates later this month.
Laced with the intoxicating tensions of drug-induced paranoia, ‘2:45’ blends jarring guitar loops and swirling hypnosis in an angular, yet deliciously groovy blend of hip-hop swagger and chant-a-long indie nostalgia. Mingling the stylish cool of Wooze with the jubilance of early 10’s ‘B-Town’ Indie, ‘2:45’ was written, demoed and recorded, all in the space of 10 days, and feeds off the instinctual impulses that brought about its conception.
"Recorded at East London’s Strongroom Studios with producer Iggy B (Spiritualized, Gary Numan, Lost Horizons, Ciel), ‘Jonny Silver’ from the band offers further insight into the track:
“Akin to the weed-induced nighttime hunger that inspired its lyrics, 2:45 rumbles along like a ticking time bomb dying to detonate. Its incessant one chord propulsion and steady repeating drums lay a bed for half-rap vocals that swing from playfulness to unease like the Bob of a clock. NEU! meets Wu-Tang to birth Kraut-Hop: perfect for inclusion on Front Left or the New Alt”
Founded in 2021 by brothers Jonny Silver and Kenny Pleasures in Norwich (UK), PleasureInc. (supported by their backing band, The Goons) sold out shows in Norwich, Brighton and London before releasing their first single. With a clutch of releases to their name last year, this February the duo announced debut EP ‘Plastic People’ - as well as their biggest headline UK tour to date - earning the backing from BBC Radio 6 Music (Amy Lamé), God Is In the TV, Hard of Hearing, The Most Radicalist, Scientists of Sound and Wax Music. This follows support slots in 2023 for Swim Deep, Sundara Karma, LIFE, Youth Sector and Joey Valence, and backing from Clash, Wonderland, Earmilk, Mystic Sons and BBC Introducing.
With their hearts set on mingling the jubilant joys of early 10s ‘B-Town’ indie with their passion for hip hop, dance music, psychedelia, jazz, 2000s comedy and late 90s wrestling, the duo’s upcoming Plastic People EP offers serves up a diverse four-song set of ebullient, dance-bitten pop that feels impossible to resist.
