Christened within Stereogum’s best new bands of 2020 list, championed by friends Wet Leg and Porridge Radio, European tour mates during Alex G's last venture – it’s about time one of DIY music’s best kept secrets finally made a shimmering return.
Their formative year of 2020 began hopeful, with a debut show broadcast live on BBC 6 Music, plus the release of two long out-of-print Bandcamp efforts; the lo-fi Face Down In Meta and hyper pop follow-up Trash Earthers, assembled not from a want to be prolific, but out of a necessity to be so.
A central collaborative core soon found itself installed at the heart of Pet Shimmers, though members have found plentiful successes orbiting external outfits. Solo artist and recent Katy J Pearson collaborator Oliver Wilde harvests the songwriting core, as does emerging producer / one half of London duo Robbie & Mona, William Carkeet. Newest recruit Jonny Allan once took centre stage duties for the influential if-you-know-you-know outfit Happyness, drummer Mig Schillace spent earlier years drumming for Portishead and bedroom solo project Soft Den sits with Florrie AL. Melody extraordinaire Lexie Jennings and chief riff liaison Rich Clarke complete the ensemble with a pool of frequent collaborators sitting close by; cameos from members of Goat Girl, Yuck, and Talk Show shine within the seven-piece’s first two full length efforts.
