Olan Monk is a musician, performer and writer from Connemara, on the west coast of Ireland, whose practice exists between experimental and popular songwriting for electronic and acoustic instruments and voice. Olan is a co-founder of C.A.N.V.A.S., alongside Lugh, as an events series and record label established in 2018 to give collective agency to an increasingly dispersed community of artists. In 2020, Olan Monk’s debut album ‘Love/Dead’ was released via C.A.N.V.A.S. as digital recordings and on a limited run of heavy-weight vinyl LPs.
Past collaborations include working live and in-studio with Actress, Ashley Paul, Elvin Brandhi, James K, Maria Somerville and Michael Speers. Past performances include appearances at the Barbican Hall and Café Oto, London; Les Abattoirs—Museum of Modern Art, Toulouse; Trans Pecos, New York; Sonic Arts Research Centre, Belfast; Le Virtigo, Casablanca; Galeria Zé Dos Bois, Lisbon; the six-month live residency ‘Corp’ at Café Au Lait, Porto and an online video performance for Burberry, London in 2020. Their new EP of songs, ’Auto Life’, is due for release in October 2021.
