Formerly known as Throwing Shade, Nabihah Iqbal leaves her old moniker behind and embraces the name she was born with. Her debut album, ‘Weighing of the Heart’, was released by Ninja Tune in December 2017.
It has already been praised highly by the likes of Pitchfork, The Guardian, FACT, Mixmag, MOJO, and Future Music, to name but a few.
Debuting with a single on Kassem Mosse’s Ominira imprint in 2013, Nabihah has since released on No Pain In Pop and Ninja Tune (with 2015’s ‘House Of Silk EP). Nabihah has hosted a bi-weekly show on NTS Radio since 2013, which is inspired by her undergraduate studies in Ethnomusicology at London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), exploring the musical traditions of different countries. She has received several commissions from other corners of the arts, where she has collaborated with Chinese artist Zhang Ding, been commissioned by Tate to compose music for the Turner Prize, collaborated with Wolfgang Tillmans as part of his Tate Modern exhibition and performed at the Barbican as part of its major Basquiat retrospective.
Live highlights include performing at both the Tate Modern and Tate Britain, as well as the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Barbican, K11 Art Institute in Shanghai, Synthposium in Moscow, Inner Varnika festival in Australia and SXSW for Clash, Dummy and as part of the official Ninja Tune showcase. Key DJ dates include Warehouse Project, Glastonbury, Worldwide Festival, Nuits Sonores, Boiler Room and Bestival.
