Brighton singer/songwriter Maximilian shares majestic indie-folk rouser ‘Red Wine’ - out 30th January 2024 via Mango Wax Records.
Written, recorded and mixed entirely by Maximilian himself across various bedrooms in Brighton, ‘Red Wine’ serves up an expansive, anthemic flair that belies its humble DIY origins. A regular in his live set since 2020, the track starts with nothing but wispy guitar and soaring vocals before it seamlessly blooms into panoramic psych-folk extravagance à la Grizzly Bear - dripping with passion; heart all over its tear-soaked sleeve.
Inspired by a swift yet intense romantic relationship, the track builds, peaks, and ebbs away with all the whirlwind brevity of its subject matter, as Maximilian himself explains:
"I wrote this song very quickly, about 4 years ago. It’s about a fleeting relationship that sparks, crashes and burns. The long-lasting return of first love. Self destructive but beautiful. "
Born and raised in the Channel Island of Jersey, Maximilian Feighan’s love of music blossomed in his teenage years after digging through bargain bins in local record shops, and forming bands on the small island. Compelled to spread his wings, he relocated to Brighton to immerse himself in the city’s fertile grassroots scene, and has remained there ever since.
Sometimes performing solo, sometimes backed by a 6-piece band, Maximilian has shared stages and collaborated with many Brighton mainstays such as Porchlight, Ellis-D, Hutch, Martha Eve and Flip Top Head, also achieved notable support slots for the likes of Naima Bock and Junior Brother.
Releasing debut single ‘For Now’ and it’s follow-up ‘Kill Time’ last autumn via South London independent label Mango Wax Records - founded by folk artist Lando Manning alongside Tim Harper of cult Camberwell record shop Dash The Henge - Maximilian has garnered support from indie press outlets like Still Listening and Hard of Hearing. ‘Red Wine’ is the latest offering from Maximilian’s debut album, due for release on 28th March.
