“a wander into the world of mellow, jangly, indie-folk” So Young
“Cosy and misfitting as an oversized knitwear; as gently glowing as a flickering candle (yet no less able to ignite fires)” Hard of Hearing
Signing to cult indie label Mango Wax Records (Lando Manning, Maximilian), London Folk Wonk Pop quartet Daisy and The Deadheads announce details of three track-EP Butter Wouldn’t Melt and share lead single ‘Baby’.
Conspiring the candid, anti-folk energies of The Moldy Peaches with the loosened grooves of ESG, ‘Baby’ serves up a joyfully-shambling blend of awkward charm and lo-fi gristle. As markedly naked textures clambering on top of one another, before erupting into a fuzzed-out kraut-punk crescendo, belying these stylistic affectations is a urgent, combative lyric exploring the often-marginalised gender-politics surrounding fertility, as frontwoman Daisy Tortuga explains:
“The 'Baby' in question isn’t that of a doo-wop teenage love affair, but the original, wailing-on-all-fours variety, with lyrics delving into the profound and often unspoken struggles surrounding fertility. We’ve used a big danceable sound to transport an emotionally complex story. A vulnerable yet empowered reflection of my own experiences. ‘Baby’ is an attempt to grapple with the difficult reality of this often untold story and the roles expected of women, even today.”
