Maranta are vocalists, multi- instrumentalists, songwriters and producers Callum Govan and Gloria Black. They were brought together in 2018 through friendship, a love for melodic, leftfield pop and dance music and a mission to make visceral, textured and infectious songs easily translated to the dancefloor.
They released their debut single ‘Radiate’ in April 2019 and EP ‘Care ii Cure’ in July of that year on Paradise Palms Records. The single was described as ‘song of the summer’ by The Skinny and made it onto The Guardian’s best tracks of 2019 playlist. Since then they have release music with New Teeth, a record label based in Leith. They are currently releasing music with Lost Map Records.
Their music has been played by DJs and radio stations around the world, including Vic Galloway (BBC Scotland), Andrew Weatherall (NTS) & Mario Cotto (KCRW). They have performed at Scottish festivals and all-dayers including Tenement Trail, Hidden Door Festival, Kelburn Garden Party, Stag & Dagger & Doune the Rabbit Hole & at musical institutions such as Leith Theatre, Summerhall, King Tuts & SWG3 & have been billed with the likes of Ibibio Sound Machine, Free Love, Callum Easter, Oracle Sisters, Pictish Trail, George Fitzgerald & Marc Rebillet.
