city: LondonLuce Rushton shares debut EP Slinky - an intimate and vivid account of the artists’ personal and musical growth. Formerly known as TV Room, Luce Ruston’s new project name and forthcoming EP mark a departure into more raw and mature songwriting often with 26 year old Luce in a musical dialogue with words and melodies written by their younger self, chronicling a collection of tender moments. The songs on Slinky tell stories of Luce’s life that are intimately personal yet often strikingly relatable in their uniquely vivid observations of grief, love, and self-actualization. Slinky is an intimate and vivid account of a young artist's personal and musical growth.
The title track, Slinky, explores Luce’s experience with gender over this time: “The word originally referred to feeling forced into ‘slinky’ women's clothing throughout my life. In the song, I look back on those feelings and reflect on how much I’ve changed and learned about myself’’
Being Luce’s debut EP these songs have come to life over the course of a few years, evolving along the way. Produced by prolific London producer Joseph Futak, the EP has a distinctive lo-fi indie rock sound, borne of diverse influences from a range of genres and artists. For fans of Big Thief, Courtney Barnett, Alvvays and cate le bon, the tracks are adorned with a rich tapestry of sounds that Luce lovingly calls "ear biscuits". Each guitar-lead song displays unique, versatile playing thoughtfully interwoven with rhythmic lyrics.
With this bold and bright EP, we are brought into Luce's world, and in it we see much of ourselves too.
