London-via-Oxford dream-pop quartet Lost Lyra share debut single 'Pastel Colours' out today (1st November) via Big Richard Records (Man/Woman/Chainsaw).
Cloaking the intimacies of Honeyglaze and the funky bass-lines of Khruangbin inside a misty-eyed, shoegazing ambience, 'Pastel Colours' intersplices touch tight spoken word with elliptic melodies to stream across consciousness with all the delicious transience of memory.
Produced and Mixed by Toby Burroughs of Pozi, at his Rumbaba Studios, the track's sensitivites take root in the song's lyrical content, as vocalist/drummer Frances Steel explains:
"The poem in 'Pastel Colours' was written during lockdown, about the feeling of dissociation and numbness born from being trapped inside. The soft ambience of the track conveys that sense of trance like detachment."
Meeting at a Young Women's Music Project event in their native Oxford - a charity initiative to aid young women and girls in music - Amelie Prior (Guitar/Vocals) and Frances Steel (Drums/Vocals) formed Lost Lyra and played their first gigs while still at school. Still in their teens, the pair moved to North London in 2022 and recruited Anzehela Sladkarova (Guitar) and Luke Osborne (bass) to complete their line-up and hone their signature dream-pop abstractions.
Performing at Slow Dance Records Presents showcase at The Brixton Windmill this summer, the band play their biggest show to date at The George Tavern on the 5th November, a single launch show with support from BossOLa and Emily Izen-Row, featuring improvised dancers and film screenings - tickets available here.
