Penge-based hyper rockers Flytrap release their debut single “Gutted” out today (21st September) via Big Richard Records (Man/Woman/Chainsaw, Lost Lyra, Kipper Gillespie).
Adopting the effect-driven, rhythmic thunder of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and the sprawling technicalities of Bygones, Flytrap cite a variety of influences, amongst them the lyricisms of the world-famous Nirvana and Washington D.C’s Faraquet.
Aiming for post-thrash with finesse, the track was produced and mixed by Spencer Withey at Farmroad Studios in Brighton, with additional mixing by Alex (from the band) and mastering by Harry Hayes of Studio Nunn.
“The on-stage sound is pretty similar - we recorded it live and just threw in some overdubs after!”(Quote from Alex, lead guitarist of the band)
Some of the band being friends since birth, others joining on via their joint college experience, Flytrap is Alex Stevens (guitar), Hannah Dobbs (guitar, vocals), Hasan Naqvi (bass guitar) and Arthur Mazandarani (drums). Ollie Kelly also contributed violin & synth tracks to this recording, although they are no longer part of the band, being switched about with Lizzie Drummond who is joining the band live on keys / synth, although is not featured on this recording.
The band play a launch show at the George Tavern on the 2nd October to celebrate the release of their debut single, alongside Denh Izen and wing!. Please get in touch below if you’d like to be guest listed.
