Emerging Glaswegian songwriter, Lizzie Reid has shared ‘Been Thinking About You’ - the latest taste from forthcoming debut EP ‘Cubicle’ which lands February 10 on Seven Four Seven Six (Matt Maltese, Matilda Mann).
Lizzie’s songs are microcosms of love, loss and heartbreak experienced in Glasgow’s streets, nightclubs and bars. She was recently announced as one of the first fifty acts set for this year’s Great Escape. Previous singles from the EP - ‘Tribute’, ‘Seamless’ and ‘Always Lovely’ - have racked up plays across BBC6 Music and on Phil Taggart’s Radio 1’s Chillest Show. Whilst they were intimate recordings of little more than Lizzie’s voice and her acoustic guitar, new single ‘Been Thinking About You’ is more indebted to Lizzie’s past life playing in bands across Glasgow. At one time, she was in as many as seven bands.
Embellished with Lianne La Havas-like jazz flourishes, ‘Been Thinking About You’ is easily the EP’s most collaborative song. It exposes a more playful, humorous side to Lizzie’s personality; she enjoys a sly laugh to herself after singing “Take all my money”. Strident guitars and comical screams play the song out infusing the fun Lizzie and her pals had making the track into the final recording.
“This is almost an appreciation song for a friend of mine. He was such a support for me at a time I wasn’t feeling my best. I was going through quite a confusing time and felt guilty that I couldn’t support him in the same way he supported me”, explains Lizzie.
