(19th March) Today, idiosyncratic indie-rockers Lip Filler release new single 'Laugh Track', ahead of their April headline tour where the band will make stops in Brighton, Leeds, Bristol, London and Birkenhead.
>From their south London base, Lip Filler are acting on impulse. Recent releases 'Tricky' and 'Leeches' have showcased a refusal to be pigeonholed and an eagerness to defy expectations. New single 'Laugh Track' reveals further depth, with the band at the most raw and exhilarating.
Written in November 2024 and recorded to tape in January 2025 with close collaborator St Francis Hotel (Little Simz, Greentea Peng), the song explores the pain of watching someone self-destruct and feeling powerless to help.
Blending soaring guitars and anthemic vocals, recording straight to tape pushed the band to prioritise performance and embrace a more mature, focused approach. "It’s taken us a while but we’re settling into an angsty-emotional rock vibe. Big, loud, passionate. We’re all artists and producers individually in our own right, so Lip Filler as a project is everything that we’d want a band to be: a sound so dense and characterful that you can barely believe it fits into a stereo recording," the band say.
Speaking more on the song's lyrical inspiration, vocalist George Tucker said:
"Laugh Track is about dealing with someone who is self-destructive, seeing how painful it is looking from the outside in and knowing that there is something that is troubling them but they’re struggling to get it under control. You realise that there is nothing you can do - you yourself feel powerless to help them - and in seeing this one individual case of someone in dire need of love and care, you realise how many instances there must be of the same thing all over the world. The song is about the internal battle we all face every day, and how our individual behaviour in trying to deal with it shapes the world we live in, for better or for worse. And this was all inspired by a date I went on with a girl I met on Hinge. Never a dull moment on that app."
Known for their "wall-shaking" live performances, Lip Filler's April tour dates follow numerous sold-out headline shows across the capital and beyond in 2024 and coveted tour supports with Alfie Templeman, Master Peace, amongst others.
Lip Filler's glowing hat tips from BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders, Sian Eleri, Nels Hylton) and BBC 6 Music (Steve Lamacq, Amy Lamé) and a 10/10 rating from Bob Vylan's Bobby Vylan on Huw Stephens' 6 Music Roundtable, along with a shout out from Gorillaz' Murdoc Niccals - join ardent support and high praise from press tastemakers such as Rolling Stone UK, NME, DIY Magazine, Dork Magazine, The Line of Best Fit, CLASH Magazine, Wonderland Magazine, Whynow, Notion and buzzy festival appearances at The Great Escape, Dot To Dot, Left Of The Dial, Y Not, VISIONS and more.
Lip Filler play dates in Brighton, Leeds, Bristol, Birkenhead and London this April. Tickets are on sale now here. Lip Filler are currently completing work on a new project, due for release later this year. New single 'Laugh Track' is out now.
MORE ABOUT LIP FILLER
Lip Filler's self-titled debut EP released back in May of 2023 was a bold statement of intent. Through a lens of frenzied dance-punk and caustic, pop-flecked indie-rock, the EP addressed personal image, self-validation, the overstimulating nature of modern technology and adjusting to life in a new city.
The band's second EP 'witchescrew' released spring 2024 showcased a band insistent on taking more risks than ever before. Across the 5 track project, Lip Filler set out to defy expectations, challenging themselves to break free from any preconceived notions of what the band was. “I think we're in an era of music where literally anything is possible” proposed George, a sentiment which pulsed through the veins of ‘witchescrew’.
Lip Filler have firmly established themselves as one of the most exciting new bands to surface in recent years; with key radio airplay from BBC R1 (Jack Saunders, Sian Eleri, Nels Hylton, Jess Iszatt) BBC 6 Music (Steve Lamacq, Amy Lamé, Huw Stephens), Radio X (John Kennedy) and a whirlwind of press tips from Rolling Stone UK, NME, So Young Magazine, CLASH Magazine, The Line Of Best Fit, Dork Magazine, Wonderland, DIY Magazine, The Independent, Gigwise, Notion, Whynow, The Rodeo, YUCK Magazine and more.
Lip Filler are: George Tucker (vocals and keys), Verity Hughes (vocals, guitar), Jude Scholefield (vocals, guitar), Theodore Pasmore (bass), Nate Wicks (drums).
