Japanese Television surf on a swirling wave of reverb-drenched organ, garage-fuzz guitar, hypno-motorik bass and pounding, voodoo drums.
The band first came together through a shared love of fuzz boxes, Joe Meek and UFOs.
Taking the primal stomp of early garage bands and the wild, sonic wheeling of later psych oddballs, JTV mix in strange instruments and homemade effects pedals to create something odd and unique.
Recording in a cold village hall deep in the wilds of the east British countryside, JTV have produced 3 EPs of motorik space twang.
Recorded live on an old 8 track machine by The Wytches’ Kristian Bell, they ooze with JTV’s signature wonk, fuzz & menace.
Their 2019 Marc Riley BBC 6 Music Session spread their cosmic, beachy gospel far and wide.
Having made Best of Year lists across BBC 6 Music with each EP, Japanese Television sold out shows across the UK with their last two tours, along with festival appearances across the UK & Europe, including Lewes Psych Festival and Holland’s Left of the Dial.
2021 saw the band collaborating with their favourite electronic artists and releasing a remix version of the ‘III’ EP. Featuring such legends as UNKLE and Gabe Gurnsey (Factory Floor) among others, the exclusive Record Store Day green vinyl release received support from Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music.
2021 has also seen the release of a Live Cassette Album of their last show pre lockdown at St. Pancras Old Church.
Only Japanese Television are 100% Space Surf.
