Welsh indie newcomers Half Happy announce debut EP ‘Conversation Killer’, set for release September 20th, and share brand new single ‘Well Done Honey’, out today (August 1st).
Emanating from Cardiff’s flourishing music scene, the rising quartet’s dream-pop, indie-rock and post punk sensibilities have already lead to them winning the Welsh Music Prize 2023 (Triskell Award), with their melody-stuffed storytelling and honest observations melting into daydream lyrics.
Earning praise in recent times from Huw Stephens on the BBC 6 Music airwaves, EP lead single ‘Slow Down’ has already attracted widespread acclaim from key indie press champions including NME, The Line Of Best Fit and La Blogotheque. Whilst on the live front, the band will be heading out on their debut UK headline tour this December, capitalising on a slew of previous supports with the likes of English Teacher, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard and Pale Blue Eyes.
Detailing their latest release, frontwoman Rosalie Miller explained: “‘Well Done Honey’ was written in one sitting after an extremely bad day at work. It’s quite a literal song about working under a strict boss who always makes you feel inadequate at your job, and being the sucker in the system because you still want to succeed and not show weakness. All that daily emotion came out on a drive home and I ended up having the most panicked cry in the car. Every traffic light you dare look around because what if the person in the car next to me looks over, would they wonder what is wrong? Or are they doing/feeling the exact same thing as me?”. It would be sad if everyone else was crying in their cars too after a big day working for the man, but it made me laugh like I was in 1984 or something. The end of the song is me shaking myself that I made it home, I didn’t die and work isn’t the end of the world.”
Happy Happy’s ‘Well Done Honey’ is out now and available on all digital platforms.
