Meeting as childhood friends before relocating to Brighton, Alex J M Turner (bass/vocals), Benji Reeves (Drums) and Ethan Barton (guitars/vocals) founded Glasshouse Red Spider Mite in early 2023 as a vessel for self-development and growth via sonic investigations of sadder, harder & darker ways of perceiving. Channeling the moodiness of slowcore within the exploratory structures of post-rock, the band have already enjoyed early backing from So Young Magazine, and a sold-out debut headline show at Brighton's Green Door Store.
Out now, debut single 'Erstwhile', spins out a darkly woven tapestry of melancholic tenderness. Recorded in a single day with Folly Group guitarist Louis Milburn - with it's accompanying music video coming courtesy of Flasha.prod (Aka Sorry's Asha Lorenz) - 'Erstwhile' is a stewing, smouldering expression of a spiralling mind, ebbing and rocking between claustrophobic intimacies and climatic shoegaze expansions.
Discussing more on the track, the band explain: "Erstwhile, the debut release from Glasshouse Red Spider Mite examines the spiralling ways in which the mind craves in times of desperation, sadness and solitude. Erstwhile wades through a journey of sonic ups and downs, in a post-rock slowcore guise, imitating the emotional complexities that comes with the inner turbulence of dark escapism and buried thoughts. Living in the past, refusal of self and unwanted nostalgia are the realities that we have collectively faced and has been a subsequent driving force for the bands formation. In an attempt to find acceptance, Erstwhile channels the ability to seek forgiveness and move forwards to a brighter place of heart and mind."
