After the final shows of the 'Lighthouse' tour, I felt that I wasn’t quite ready yet to say goodbye to the songs from the album. Playing the songs night after night, you can often start to dissociate from them—they lose their meaning, sort of like what happens when you stare at the same word for too long. However, I found that wasn’t happening. The songs only meant more—the more people connected with them, sang along to them, and the more we played them.
I think about the last show we played in LA, how good it felt to be playing the tracks from 'Lighthouse' live. So when I came home and started to settle back in, I wanted to re-explore a few of the songs. This led to working on a few more soft versions. Alone in my room, I re-contextualized the tracks over the summer in this more intimate way, which felt right to me after having them be more explosive and brash in their live context on tour. I was able to connect more deeply to the lyrics and the feelings of the songs, something I hope they do for you as well.
