Today (19 May), FERAL FAMILY let-loose their highly anticipated EP ‘PLAYTEST’.
The new collection arrives in tandem with the release of its electrifying opening track, “Fractured”, also available to hear today.
Their debut extended-play release, the ‘PLAYTEST’ EP finds the Yorkshire noiseniks delivering 5 tracks of ferocious, Doomsday-baiting post-punk ripe for our times. From the cataclysmic Dune-inspired “Spice King”, to the slithering gothic-rock stylings of “Wee Van Bee”, or the intense industrial clamour of “Smother"; the band make their mark with a dark, brooding collection of songs that meld the gothic and euphoric with invigorating results.
Opening this Pandora's box is the pulse-quickening “Fractured”, which is also out now. A song about dual-identities and the dawning realisation of deception when it’s been staring you in the face, lead vocalist Jamie explains of the track:
“”Fractured” channels the complicated relationship of having a double-life paraded right in front of your eyes, understanding its insidiousness but ultimately fearing the fire of confrontation.”
Produced, mixed and mastered by Liam Radburn at Magic Garden Studios in Wolverhampton, the track follows previous singles “Wee Van Bee”, “Spice King” and “Smother”; all of which can be found on Feral Family’s debut EP ‘PLAYTEST’ - streaming now across all major platforms. The full tracklisting is as follows
As their name suggests, Feral Family are hungry and relentless: it’s in their DNA. Quietly simmering away in the seaside town of Bridlington on the East Coast of Yorkshire, their music has been hailed as “a perfect blend of haunting vocals mixed with an in-your-face sound akin to Foals” by BBC Introducing.
With previous singles that have charted at #3 and #1 in the iTunes Rock Chart, and gained airplay on Amazing Radio, Total Rock and more. Recent release “Spice King” was featured on The Independent’s ‘Now Hear This’ playlist, received airplay on BBC Introducing Humberside and attracted praise from a range of tastemaker blogs including God Is In The TV, Soundsphere Magazine and Flare Music with the latter enthusing: “It’s bloody hard to release something that feels authentically new these days, but “Spice King” is a catastrophically raw form of originality. Unfathomably strong.” Follow-up single “Smother” was equally praised, with When The Horn Blows praising: “Feral Family is like a drug, and ‘Smother’ hits the spot once again.”
Bottling the lightning of their mesmeric live performance in the studio, Feral Family are wildly independent and utterly driven with a raison d’être to become known as the UK’s most crucial live band.
