Tristan Whitehill writes lush, playful electronic compositions under the name Euglossine. Bright and bubbly yet sophisticated and thoughtfully constructed, his highly accessible work blends influences ranging from jazz fusion and prog rock to abstract hip-hop and video game music. Following blippy, lo-fi early releases like 2013's Dance District, Euglossine's sound became more elaborate, with albums like 2019's Coriolis featuring knotty arrangements of smooth sounds, including fluid guitars and IDM-like synth melodies. Aside from making his own music, the Gainesville, Florida-based musician also runs Squiggle Dot, a netlabel home to an array of similarly colorful, absurdist releases.
Whitehill released a 2011 EP with Kane Pour under the name Orchal and Vir before he began releasing tapes and CD-Rs as Euglossine. Ranging from new age abstraction to more beat-driven efforts like 2013's Dance District, his increasingly refined recordings garnered attention from vaporwave fans. Among Euglossine's many cassettes and digital releases, Complex Playground was released by Beer on the Rug in 2015, with Canopy Stories appearing on Orange Milk in 2016. The label also issued Euglossine's vinyl debut, Sharp Time, in 2017. Following 2018's Librarian EP, Euglossine's Coriolis was released by Hausu Mountain in 2019. Orange Milk issued Psaronius in 2020. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi
