London dark-pop artist Circe releases anthemic single Blue Love today - a colossal dream-pop track that erupts into a euphoric crescendo from its first beat. Circe has crafted an intoxicating power-ballad hit.
Circe explains that Blue Love is a sonic retelling of the 21st century relationship epidemic ‘Love Bombing’. If love is a drug, Circe wanted this track ‘to feel like it has completely intoxicated your veins’.
As darkly romantic as it is empowering - the track's production is equally lush in its low end vocal takes, as it is outrageous in its maximalist synths. Think Karen O if she was produced by The Cure during Disintegration Days. Reminiscent of innovative Cocteau Twins, Circe’s unique luminous vocals are layered over Perfume Genius inspired stylised soaring synths.
Blue Love see’s a notable shift in Circe’s already formidable songwriting abilities - Circe shines lyrically, encapsulating the listeners with her astute and bold one liners such as ‘He F*cks Like Love!’ - a hook that has already captured the hearts of ‘girls in love with the wrong boys’ corner of Tik Tok racking up a playlist of half-a-million saves
Playing out like a movie, listeners journey though enrapturing lyrics + anthemic choruses. Circe speaks about ‘wanting to sonically create something that commanded the same romantic adrenaline of being love-bombed‘
The track resolves with rapturous anthemic choral crescendo, alongside a jugular vein cutting lyric: 'You got what you wanted - let the sun come rot it’
The lines are an empowering statement from Circe who says: ‘I needed the track to resolve this way lyrically as I wanted to claim power back from Love Bombing/Gas Lighting stories. That gut dropping moment, when the love-bomber suddenly retracts their hyper focussed attention, freezing out their conquests , and leaving them shrouded in shame. These lyrics say ”no you can’t gaslight or shame us - we see you - you got what you wanted - now go rot!” '
Blue Love is written + produced by Circe - co produced by Steven Ansell of Blood Red Shoes
Often making the connection between the sonic and visual forms of art and culture-a trait which has seen Circe's tracks appear in Netflix hit Elite + Amazon Prime’s Hanna and Channel 4’s Made In Chelsea. This, alongside the undeniable hooks, has already expanded her public profile Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson of BBC 6 Music, as well as Jack Saunders BBC Radio 1 have offered support on the airwaves, and The FADER, NYLON, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, DORK Magazine, Wonderland and more have been enthusiastic champions at press. Editorial playlists on streaming platforms have followed suit, placing Circe as a compelling name within the eco system.
