Brighton indie risers CIEL announce their brand new ‘Make It Better’ EP, set for release July 7th, and share euphoric lead single ‘Somebody’, out now via revered indie label Jazz Life (Blood Red Shoes, Tigercub, Circe).
The follow-up to acclaimed 2022 EP ‘Not In The Sun, Nor In The Dark’, ‘Make It Better’ is a fast-paced, in-the-moment offering brimming with liveliness and infectious energy, with its scruffy guitars and wild, over-the-top drum fills combining to perfection with the gentle yet emotive vocals of charismatic frontwoman Michelle Hindriks.
Having already landed an A-List spot on BBC 6 Music (alongside Hot Chip, The National & Yeah Yeah Yeahs) as well as BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders) exposure, the trio have also gained high profile press support (DIY, Clash, Dork, CRACK Magazine, Gigwise, Rough Trade, The Independent, The New Cue, Under The Radar), with their vivid blend of fuzzy indie rock, goth and shoegaze showcasing them to a whole new audience.
Detailing their upcoming single release, Hindriks explained: "’Somebody’ is a song that came together for most part on the spot in the studio. It's about starting to feel a deep urge to socialise, connect with others, party and be more outwards again after a period of needing solitude. Spring time is always a time when this naturally happens to me - getting out of my kind of winter hibernation and feeling that urge to be around people”.
Praised for their exquisite and hefty live shows, CIEL have already ticked off slots at the likes of The Great Escape, Green Man and Eurosonic, and are gearing up for an extensive list of international shows this year - including a European tour with Blood Red Shoes, festivals, and their own headline show at The Lexington in London on May 17th.
Produced and mixed by Steven Ansell, CIEL’s ‘Somebody’ is out now via Jazz Life and available on all digital platforms.
CIEL’s live set-up is Michelle Hindriks (vocals, bass), Jorge Bela Jimenez (guitar), Tim Spencer (drums)
