Big Liquid

Big Liquid is the mysterious electronic/ambient project of New Yorker Keenan Novi. Loose Corner is Big Liquid's upcoming sophomore release and the follow-up to his debut 2021 release, An Old Backpack, also on sound as language (Brin, Euglossine, Ki Oni).

Novi continues to echo the sights and sounds of the city that surrounds him, creating evocative soundscapes as elements of drone, dub, and trip-hop dance in and out of sight.Loose Corner was inspired and named after Anita Thacher's short film/museum installation from the 1980s. With the new album, Novi hoped to capture some of the same loose energy the film encompassed. Loose Corner was made on a dying computer and a found MIDI keyboard that worked but was also prone to malfunction, sometimes creating something strange but worthy of inclusion. These unexpected sounds are peppered all across the album. Compared to Big Liquid's debut, Loose Corner does indeed feel roomier. There is a hazy quality to the atmosphere Novi creates here compared to the more tense and tight pieces found on An Old Backpack. One thing both albums have in common though is Novi's keen sense of freedom and exploration. But yet again, Novi always seems to keep Big Liquid anchored to a calming center and always orbiting towards a greater purpose.
