Barnsley indie risers Bedroom High Club (FFO The Strokes, Circa Waves, Sam Fender) release debut EP ‘Above The Belt’ & share soaring focus track ‘Hard Talk, out today (June 16th) via Ampersounds.
Comprising four mates who’ve known each other for years, Bedroom High Club’s tale so far has been one of grassroots gigging and doing things the old-school way. Building momentum via a series of incendiary early live shows at Sheffield’s iconic Leadmill, a few early support slots led to a game-changing set at Tramlines festival; having grown up in a town that offered them few prospects - least of all a natural route to being a working musician.
Channeling their love of The Strokes and Julian Casablancas’ throaty-vocaled scream into a set of songs that truly represents where they are now, the band’s debut EP follows a triumphant April headline UK tour, and a warmly acclaimed debut appearance at Brighton’s The Great Escape Festival.
Comprising of hard edged lead single ‘Courtesy’ and scintillating follow-up ‘What You Did’, the quartet have already won early acclaim from the likes of The Independent and BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders), and will be hitting the road for a run of shows alongside Teenage Dads later this month, in addition to festival slots at Y Not and 110 Above.
Detailing monstrous focus track ‘Hard Talk’, charismatic frontman Blue Brownlie explained: “‘I wrote ‘Hard Talk’ after a very rough point in life coming out of my first proper long term relationship. It’s about when you know a relationship is over and feeling trapped between familiarity and comfortability. It was the first tune we wrote for the EP and it really helped shaped our sound towards those heavy grungey choruses”.
Bedroom High Club’s ‘Above The Belt’ (EP) is out now via Ampersounds and available on all digital platforms.
Bedroom High Club is Blue Brownlie (vocals, guitarist), Lewis Gelder (guitarist), Dan Partridge (drummer), James Ardron (bassist)
