Throughout ASG's debut record, producer and multi-instrumentalist Polly Mackey showcases her ability at translating emotions through sound design. Duality between light and dark being a central theme of the album, she builds tranquil landscapes before crushing them in sound; a constant push-pull in dynamics gives the album a charging momentum over 10 tracks.

"Many of her arrangements have a less concrete, more amorphous structures, relying on her voice rather than her synthesizers to carry things forward. Listen closely and you’ll find the accents she’s sewn into each of the songs: flourishes and pitch-shifted harmonies and synthetic tweaks that fade in and disappear as quickly. Alongside her own headline tour and festival dates, Art School Girlfriend has toured Europe alongside Marika Hackman, the UK alongside Orlando Weeks and the US alongside The Japanese House. Outside of her own artist project, Mackey also lent vocals to Ghostpoet’s album ‘I Grow Tired But Dare Not Fall Asleep’ and runs a monthly ambient/electronic show for Peckham-based female-led radio station, Foundation FM.
