Anona

Ella Oona Grace Russell is a multi-instrumentalist (flute, drums, guitar and a little piano & trombone) from Brighton, UK. Known as the unusual stand-up drummer/flautist/vocalist in The New Eves, Ella's solo work as Anona explores a more intimate direction. Working with a seven piece band, her intricate compositions and richly woven layers of instrumentation take on an almost orchestral feeling at times. It nods towards so many genres: freak folk, chamber pop, jazz, contemporary classical, afrobeat and a myriad of world influences. Anona's debut EP was finally released in 2023, 3 years after completion due to the pandemic. Written between the ages of 19 - 21 years old and recorded in a homemade garden studio, this EP spectacularly marked the arrival of Anona's unique sound and first explorations.
