ABOUT THIS ARTIST

AGAAMA is an artist, composer, singer-songwriter, and producer. Her new EP, WANDERING WORLDS is due for release 15.09.22 via The state51 Conspiracy.

While growing up in Birmingham in a British-Jamaican household with eclectic musical tastes, AGAAMA's imagination was first captured by her Dad's contemporary-classical vinyl collection and her mother's love of Sarah Vaughan and Quincy Jones. She studied classical trombone as a teenager, spending her weekends raving to UK bass music, following inner-city sound systems, in the middle of the mosh pit at metal gigs and then singing in church on Sundays. From her teens, she was exploring music production and fronting metal bands, inspired by the performances of theatrical front women like Stevie Nicks, Kate Bush and Big Mama Thornton.

WANDERING WORLDS explores spaces literally, personally, and collectively: starting with the literal green spaces of London and Birmingham, stepping into different emotional states on the journey from fear to love, and connecting this to wider issues of the tipping point we occupy at present. Expect tracks that are at once dreamlike, unsettling and unpredictable.

WANDERING WORLDS follows debut Safe In Noise which received extensive support from Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM, Mobo Trust, PRS Foundation and many others. AGAAMA recently performed music from WANDERING WORLDS with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, collaborating with Musical Director Jules Buckley for Inside Classical.
