Nottingham’s Victory Lap release debut EP ‘Torch Songs’, arriving today (July 19th)
A melting pot of era-bending golden age sounds, as interpreted from a 21st century perspective of music and film, Victory Lap burst onto the scene in the spring with irresistible debut effort ‘Jealousy’ and recent thrilling follow-up ‘Sincerely Yours’, generating plenty of fanfare in the process. Early support from key press champions DIY Magazine and The Line Of Best Fit, and spins on BBC 6 Music (Emily Pilbeam) have both greeted their arrival on the emerging indie landscape.
With a newly announced debut UK headline tour lined up for December (preceded by a Rough Trade East London headliner this August), the new noir infused five-piece have already hit the festival circuit this summer, as well as ticking off slots with contemporaries including Do Nothing, L’Objectif and Blood Wizard in recent times.
Detailing their debut EP release, frontman Tomas Ponting explained: “In 'Torch Songs,' we aimed to create a record that encapsulates feelings of lost love and nostalgia. We approached each track as if crafting a scene from a motion picture, each one exploring melancholy through melody and sonic textures. A salute to emotions that can be no more.
Victory Lap’s ‘Torch Songs’ (EP) is out now and available on all digital platforms.
Victory Lap is Tomas Ponting (lead vocals, guitar), James Denham (backing guitar, vocals), Lawrence English (drums), Rory Ford (backing vocals, bass), Jake Cornes (piano)
