VALA

City: Manchester
Country: UK
Genre: Indie

Bio

British boys recording guitar-pop noise in bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms across Greater Manchester. Vala return with the Swimming Kit EP and first single She’ll Play Heck.

After receiving support from BBC Introducing in Manchester and Amazing Radio for their previous two singles (Say You Want It (That Way) and Only One) Vala doubled down in their makeshift home studio and got to work on the Swimming Kit EP. Entirely self produced and inspired by The Strokes, Tame Impala and the prospect of staying indoors for the foreseeable future, it was then mastered by friend, housemate and longterm collaborator Mathieu Garcia (who’s recent work with Ellysse Mason has been featured on BBC Radio 1).

She’ll Play Heck is the first cut from the EP and was written safe in the knowledge that it wouldn’t have to be performed live any time soon.

“What they do is twist the concept of indie-pop into something that is very much of their own... it’s full of joy, and leaves you with a big big smile on your face. And that’s something we all need, especially now.”
- Local Sound Focus, Frank Roper

“Filled with Beatle-esque harmonies, soft drum patterns, jangly guitar riffs and singer Joe’s soulful vocals; it’s fantastic start to finish.”
- Popped Music, Amy Butcher

Selected Reviews and Comments

On 14th January 2022, Manchester indie-pop band VALA kickstart the new year with their latest track “You Don’t Want My Love.” The first of four in a collection of new songs, building up to their latest EP.

With a genre-crossing sound, VALA, are a fusion of indie rock and pop, incorporating melodic hooks and smooth guitar riffs which has clearly seen them likened to indie giants like Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes.  “You Don’t Want My Love” sees the band brave new territory with their sound as the transistor vibe houses fluid, sleek riffs and dreamy pop vocal melodies. The new release also offers a stripped back alternative version of the track of a B-Side
