“…reincarnate, rejuvenated, and in glorious new voice.” So Young Magazine “Ugly aren’t holding back” Gigwise

Accompanying news of a headline show at London’s The Lexington, in addition to support slots for Black Country, New Road on their ongoing UK tour, UGLY share their latest art-rock epic ‘The Wheel’. Sticking true to their newly-acquired penchant for all things idiosyncratic and genre-confounding, ‘The Wheel’ divulges a labyrinthine 7 minute art-rock odyssey. Composed of three distinct, intertwining movements, the track frolics through the wonderlands of a capella choirs towards the bountiful cornucopia of ambitious harmonies, folk-rock surges and oblique, bacchic frenzies. Speaking about the single, guitarist/Vocalist Samuel Goater explains: “The Wheel is a song that shows-off the band’s lineup, boasting the best it can offer and playing in favour of many of the singers’ choral background. Painting a sinister cultish image tied to nature and the elements, ‘ ‘The wheel’ explores themes which the band explore in a number of songs in their current live show.” Originally forming in Cambridge in 2016 before relocating and becoming a mainstay of the London grassroots gig circuit, a pandemic-enforced hiatus enabled the band to rejig their line-up and soak up a whole host of eclectic influences ranging from choral music to post-rock to the staples of the 60s and 70s.
