Neo-soul pop newbies The Redroom continue their surge in the north as they announce the release of their latest creation, ‘The Woman From Nowhere’ – heading to all good digital stockists on Friday 28th April. 

Weaving a mysterious tale of wonder and intrigue, The Women From Nowhere has a unique sense of dark fascination that vocalist Jess Lewis constructs through her powerful soul-edged vocals. 

Combining the band’s signature alt-indie, blues, jazz and psychedelic rock elements, ‘TWFN’ is the band’s first foray into a new style of songwriting. 

The track itself acts as a narration, outlining a story of a transient woman who doesn’t navigate life within the confines of mainstream society. Lyricist and lead singer Jess Lewis-Ward describes a unique encounter that inspired this new approach to lyric-writing.

She said: “The Woman From Nowhere is a story based on a short real-life encounter. It’s a complex take on a simple interaction. A passing conversation with an interesting woman at a music festival, led to a burst of inspiration that I had to see through”.

“The song itself encapsulates the way in which my mind works, where I’ll often create whole worlds and stories for strangers that I meet or observe along the way. I think TWFN accurately captures the variety of musical influences (from Louise Verneuil to America) that guide our songwriting”.

Blending different musical elements and fusing various genres, The Redroom are unrivalled in their masterful ability to blend the niche with the mainstream, the old with the new. 

Lewis-Ward’s carefree but socially-charged songwriting style highlights the 21st-century female experience, touching upon the good, the bad, the ugly and everywhere in between.

Formed in late 2019, the band consists of the 20-year-old Jessica Lewis-Ward on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Jake Elliot lead guitar, Dominic Aldridge bass guitar, Matthew Dodds on keys and Charlie McDonald behind the kit. 

Since their first release ‘Nostalgia’ in October of 2020 they have accumulated over 85,00 streams and their tunes soon came to the attention of the likes of  BBC 6 Music, This Feeling, BBC Introducing and Tyneside’s much-loved music storyteller, NARC. Magazine. 

In 2021 they performed to a sell-out crowd at Hardwick Festival – alongside Nile Rodgers and CHIC – and in 2022 they opened the mainstage for Stereophonics (Hardwick Live) as well as music giants Madness(Lindisfarne Festival).

After moving their base to Manchester last year, The Redroom have found a true home within the diverse Mancunian cultural landscape. Discussing their time in Manchester so far, Jess added: “Life in Manchester is great! We’ve played some fantastic gigs, and even managed to sell-out our first headline show at Night and Day Cafe!”

We’ve met some amazing people and gained some great opportunities from the move. The music scene here is a lot bigger and more diverse in comparison to Newcastle. It definitely feels like a natural progression for us. We all absolutely love the city and can’t wait to see what’s in store for us over the next year.”

From sharing the stage with industry icons, to sell-out headline shows in both their hometown of Newcastle and their new home of Manchester, 2023 is shaping up to be a stellar summer for one of the North East’s brightest emerging talents.
