Sulka is the songwriting and recording project of Lukas Clasen. Based in Glasgow, Sulka has been putting out a stream of albums and EPs since 2017, enabled by various local cassette labels (Gold Mold, Death Collective, Common, Negative Hope). The music draws much of its inspiration from figures of the late 90s / early 00s alternative scenes; Elliott Smith-esque acoustic compositions, scuzzy upbeat indie-rock tracks reminiscent of The Cribs and experiments in sound collage in vein of Badly Drawn Boy. The dynamic and stylistic range of the tracks are kept coherent through a DIY home recording aesthetic and a consistent lyrical tone. Throughout the tracks, personal subject matter such as relationships and mental health are often explored with a mixture of sincerity and tongue-in-cheek word play. Sulka’s latest LP ‘Take Care’ is his debut for Lost Map Records. "A fine young Scottish man in a hat – also sometimes not in a hat – who hails from the city that is Glasgow and makes a gloriously melodic, scuzzy, crumpled, lived-in kind of lo-fi indie-rock music that gets our blood pumping and makes our heart soar and makes us feel 21 again" - Johnny Lynch, Lost Map Records
