Storefront Church’s surreal, lush, and dark atmospheres are the creation of Los Angeles musician Lukas Frank. The project’s full-length debut, As We Pass, arrived in 2021.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Frank found work as a session musician starting at age 18 and spent time as a touring drummer for Portugal. The Man and many others before setting to work on a solo project. Drawing influence from the likes of Pink Floyd and Scott Walker, he recorded the Storefront Church EP with several friends including Marshall Vore (Phoebe Bridgers), Bram Inscore (Twin Shadow), Waylon Rector (The Drums, Alaska Reid) and engineer Cassidy Turbin (BECK, Tashaki Miyaki). The completed EP was self-issued in late 2017.
He eventually drew the interest Sargent House, which reissued the EP in 2019. His first song for the label, "The Gift," was featured on the Netflix series The Queen's Gambit. Recorded with collaborators including DIIV's Zachary Cole Smith, Storefront Church's debut album, As We Pass, followed in May 2021.
Most recently, the band released a single featuring Phoebe Bridgers, is scoring a documentary film, writing the theme song for AMC series Monsieur Spade, and producing GZA of Wu-Tang Clan’s next solo record.
