Nothing is fixed and there’s no rush. Influential and hidden-away cult concern, splint, return to the front line this month with the release of their fourth track on Nice Swan Records, the hypnotic, expansive and intense, Continuing Endless. Transmitting on static frequencies across both their West Yorkshire and Manchester home territories, the metamorphic five-piece continue a run of shows this week, including an outing at The Great Escape this Saturday 18 May (Revenge, 18;30).
Disruptive, unrelenting and persuasive, splint’s unorthodox, slow rise continues to affect informed wonder, consistently leaving a wake of unknowns that light a flame towards which music-loving moths and kindred spirits are powerless to resist flickering around. The Jesus and Mary Chain/My Bloody Valentine-hued, languid charge of Continuing Endless draws a direct line to their last single, April 2023’s smoggy and guttural Awaiting Hills, while advancing away from the off-map, angular sounds of 2022 singles, Military Procedures and 145.
