brighton-based gritpop duo snake eyes are pleased to return with their new single ‘jar full of wasps’, set for release on 10th april 2025 via alcopop! records (uk) and grand hotel van cleef (ger).
starting the year with a raft of high profiles support slots alongside the meffs, dune rats, you me at six, and kid kapichi, snake eyes have also just announced their own run of june 2025 uk headline tour dates, with tickets on sale now (see below for listings).
taking inspiration from a youtube video in which graham coxon described a guitar pedal as sounding like “a jar full of wasps”, the new single is another frantic, fuzzy offering from the twosome, and keeps the *ahem*...buzz...fresh around the band’s ever-snowballing momentum.
commenting on the single, which premiered on radio x with john kennedy last night, front man jim heffy says: “‘jar full of wasps’ is a song about adolescence. about being young, dumb and a liability. it’s about the crap mates you used to have and a reminder to surround yourself with good people and to back yourself!”
continuing their eco-friendly messaging after recent charity single ‘hottest day on record’ donated proceeds to music declares emergency and greenpeace, the band are collaborating with beevive to make limited edition snake eyes bee revival vials for the physical release of the single, complete with digital download code.
according to friends of the earth uk, “35 uk bee species are under threat of extinction, and all species face serious threats. pesticides are one of the key threats to bees. the decline in bees' diversity and abundance would have a serious impact on how the natural world functions, including our crops. bees pollinate much of the food that makes our diets healthy and tasty—from the apple in our lunchbox, to the tomatoes on our pizza.”
of the collaboration, the band say: “we’ve collaborated with beevive for the “physical version” of this single. they’re an incredible organisation that are focused on the wellbeing of bees. after all, without them, there’s no us. we’ve made snake eyes bee revival kits that come with a digital download of the song. you load it up with sugary water and pop it on your keys, then when you see a tired bee on your travels that’s in need of that sugary goodness you can be the legend that saves its life. what beevive are doing is so, so important and it’s a real privilege to partner with them on jar full of wasps <3”
the new track is the second release from the band this year, who kicked off 2025 with their roaring return single ‘hug me’—featuring guest vocals from erik heise of german punk chart toppers and touring buddies pabst—picking up support from bbc r1, bbc 6music, radio x and hitting global spotify new music friday playlists.
the pair recently announced that they will be performing as a live duo for the foreseeable future, following the departure of bassist sophie douglas last year.
snake eyes will be revealing further new music and live dates over the coming months.
