Stock up the Smirnoff Ice, ready the playlists, and put the speakers to 11, as London five-piece Slumber announce they’ll be crashing the party, bringing along a taste of their debut single ‘Julian Casablancas (I Wanna Rock A Pair Like)’. Dropping on Friday the 13th of September (because who doesn’t love tempting fate?), this track is the anthem for every socially awkward mess who longs to steal the spotlight.
Imagine Rivers Cuomo stumbling into a Dandy Warhols rehearsal and attempting to write a Blur track, and you’ll get something close to ‘Julian Casablancas’. A Heineken-stained, flash-photography-fuelled anthem soaked in a uniquely British form of mild-mannered hedonism. With a mix of self-aware swagger and endearing imperfections, Slumber is here to revive the indie sleaze party—and yes, your name’s on the guest list.
“‘Julian Casablancas’ is a song about the pressure of London nightlife,” the band explains. “That sense of feeling totally inadequate in a room of what always seems to be the coolest and hottest people you can possibly imagine. Of course, that’s much too vulnerable to say directly, so instead we just offset it with a stupid joke about The Strokes and their jeans.”
To celebrate the single’s release, Slumber are throwing their first exclusive “Slumber Party” on September 12th at Hanway Bar in Central London. Expect to be witness to the scenes within their songs, as they play out in real-time to an indie soundtrack that will shake the pretentiousness off of even the straightest face in the room. With guest DJs, an exclusive first playback of the single, a photography exhibition, and merch pop-up, get ready to immerse yourself within their world. As if that wasn’t enough, Slumber are also set to headline their very first show at the Sebright Arms on October 5th.
After a year of cutting their teeth on the London live circuit—gracing venues like Shacklewell Arms, The Old Blue Last, and a sold-out show at The George Tavern with My Fat Pony and Wonderbug—Slumber are fast becoming London’s most talked-about indie outfit.
