Roosevelt’s highly acclaimed album ‘Polydans’ (2021) served as a love letter to electronic music and was inspired by the interconnectivity found on the dancefloor. Today, he takes this idea a step forward via a truly mind-blowing collab with music legend (and one of his personal idols) Nile Rodgers. Featuring Nile’s signature guitar licks, Roosevelt’s new single “Passion” is fueled by the disco era and uninhibited joy of places like Studio 54 where people came together to be brought to life by music
Together the two of them created an ageless and glistening modern disco classic. Listen to the collaboration, which also features Bim Amoako-Gyampah on backing vocals, HERE via CITY SLANG and GRECO-ROMAN.
Written by Marius Lauber (aka Roosevelt) along with Nile’s assistance on guitar, the song was truly a dream come true for Marius: “Nile has been one of my biggest influences over the years, so working on a track together with him was an absolute dream come true. The track had many different shapes and forms over almost two years, so I'm happy to finally have a version that I'm happy with. Nile and I worked on the track remotely via phone calls and e-mails, before I finally met him in LA to celebrate the completion of it. The man is a living legend to me, and just talking to him about the early disco days was such a big inspiration. 'Passion' is an ode to Studio 54, a homage to the energy and ecstasy of late-70s disco.”
While cutting his teeth for years touring around the world, collaborating with acts like Washed Out, and remixing artists like Rhye, Glass Animals, Chvrches and Charlotte Gainsbourg, Roosevelt became one of the most buzzed-about new voices in electronic music. Today’s release follows the aforementioned ‘Polydans’ LP, which Billboard said “balances 80s-inspired synth, disco, driving beats and cinematic textures into a musical amalgamation that simultaneously manages effervescence and heft,” while Pitchfork said “ Lauber’s music evokes an earnest sweetness, forming crisp melodies around his smooth vocals.
While working on the last record, Marius took the expertise he learned on the road and brought it back to his roots: a combination of playing multiple instruments in numerous bands during his adolescence followed by his time spent DJing at intimate clubs around London, Berlin, Lisbon and more. He craved the chance to recapture the energy and essence of those moments of sonic connection, where passion and excitement are woven into the intimate nuances of the genre, and the physical relationship between the DJ and those on the dancefloor.
