:p Carving out a glimpse of what this Edinburgh-based, five-piece has to offer ‘Space Cadet’, similarly to their debut ‘make big money fast online’ is a work of observational commentary. Fronted by brothers Danny and Robin Herbert, alongside drummer Andrew Turnbull, bassist Robbie White and Alice Hancock on live samplers, Redolent tease sonic modes evocative of the contingent of artists that have put Scotland’s music scene on the global map. Courting traits of their predecessors whilst coaxing a sound that is close to a perfect hybrid of electronic and indie, connecting the dots between the future and the past.
Self-produced, and led by one half of the sibling front-duo Danny, who incidentally engineers at Post Electric Studios (the recording studio run by Idlewild’s Rod Jones), ‘Space Cadet’ stamps Redolent’s sound while sitting at the intersection of some of their musical influences - Mount Kimbie, king krule, brockhampton, LCD soundsystem, Clairo, Talking Heads - and leaves ears eager for a debut EP.
The single arrives alongside a self-directed video, replete with an iconic scroller that surrounds the band as they perform in the round, and only goes further to emphasise Redolent’s unvarnished and honest appeal. Redolent’s new single ‘Space Cadet’ is out now and coinciding with its release they are hosting a monthly residency of midi music ‘we should catch up if ur around’ at Edinburgh’s The Biscuit Factory.
