Pretty Bitter is a psychedelic synth pop gumball machine. Pretty Bitter is the new queer Richard Linklater movie you've never heard of. Pretty Bitter is the summer music festival of your dreams. Pretty Bitter is the last night of July and there's fireworks and you're screaming happy at the sky and blissful glitter is spilling as you're making out in the backseat on a long, long drive. Most of all, though, Pretty Bitter is music for finding yourself. D.C. songwriter Em Bleker didn't have any journey in mind when she launched Pretty Bitter (formerly Nah.) in 2017 with their close friend, Miriam Tyler. After meeting on the Internet -- of course it was Tinder -- the pair got together to work on music. Miri was writing with another feminine voice in mind, and Em wanted to sing. Suddenly, there was a blossoming, and the road was clear. Pretty Bitter was born. Years later, Pretty Bitter has played with national touring acts like Sunflower Bean and The Ophelias, has earned tens of thousands of plays on Spotify, and enjoys thousands of followers on social media. Together Bleker and Tyler, along multi-instrumentalist Zack Be, drummer Jason Hayes, and guitarist Chris Smith have perfected a stylized blend of joyous, ecstatic synth pop (Passion Pit, Sylvan Esso) and layered, feminist storytelling (Fiona Apple, Julia Jacklin).
