"The King of Pop Optimism" Nightshift

Infused with vintage flavourings and nifty, T-Rex-esque melodic bops, Oxford's Premium Leisure shares new single 'Choosey' ahead of debut album Bug Blood, set for release December 6th.

Written in collaboration with drummer Mike Monaghan (Gaz Coombes), who layered up the track's foundational  polyrhythms remotely at his Berlin studio, 'Choosey' offers a classy coming together of retro-flavourings - walking basslines mingled with intricate guitar noodlings and punchy glam vocals whip up instant, nostalgic joy.

Offering a reminder of the benefits of accepting the differences between loved ones rather than pushing back against them, Chris Barker from Premium Leisure explains more about the track :

“Choosey is all about collaboration and acceptance. It’s not profound to say we have very little control of who we spend our time with and who our family are, but I’ve been working at acknowledging the differences between each other without getting emotional. Knowing we all don’t have to be on the same page to hang out, and in fact how great things happen when we’re not in agreement. I’m really happy with how the sentiment of the song married up with the sonic feel. It captures a celebratory jam where each musician is playing honestly and freely.”

Premium Leisure is the brainchild of producer/songwriter Chris Barker, who's rotating line-up has consistently featured the crème de la crème of Oxford's musical talent. Getting recognition in 2021 with a series of releases through boutique South London label Plum Cuts (Mellah), the project as since earnt support slots for the likes of  Katy J Pearson, The Bug Club, and BC Camplight,  backing from from Indie champions The Line of Best, Yuck Magazine, Clunk and MOOF and airplay on BBC Radio 1, Radio X and BBC Introducing. 

Originally making his name as lead guitarist for Willie J Healey, Barker corralled a group of UK indie royalty to create the Premium Leisure sound. Upcoming debut album 'Bug Blood'  features performances from the likes of Casper Miles (Billie Marten, Enny), Jack Kendrew (Venbee), Tomas Greenhalf (Gaz Coombes, Man Without Country) and Hannah Jacobs (Arlo Parks, Pecq). With a strong ethos of collaboration combined with this roster of musicians, the goal of Premium Leisure’s album was to create something packed with character and musical flair.
