“As tasty as their name suggests” Jim Gellatly in The Sun
Glasgow alternative-rock group Pizza Crunch are pleased to announce their follow up to singles
'Young Excitement' and ‘Wilting Youth’ with new song ‘Romanticised Past’. The band are excited to release this track, having played it at various tour and festival dates since the spring.
Pizza Crunch have recently put the final touches to a year and a half long project in the form of their debut EP called ‘That Serene Age’. The 7 song EP moves from pessimistic obsessions with the past, to dreamy interludes about finding beauty in life and death. Romanticised Past joins Wilting Youth and Young Excitement as the EP’s singles. The song is essentially about remembering those good times and wondering if they were all that. Lyricist Ewan Hearns said the following when talking about the song: “I think Romanticised Past was probably the first song on the EP to fully materialise. Nathan sent through the guitar parts and I had the lyrics down pretty quick. I remember sitting in my flat and looking at the photos my girlfriend had on a section of our wall of us and people we barely see anymore. I think as humans we tend to put the past on some pedestal even when the past wasn’t too kind to us. We also recorded this one at home instead of in the studio which allowed for a lot more freedom with the backing vocals and guitar layering.” The track was mixed by Johnathon Hucks (Sigrid, The Rills, Spring King)
Finding one another from different ends of Scotland, Pizza Crunch embrace a range of influences. Prompt lyrical commentary that veers from the elucidation of sombre hedonism to trivialising the emotionally painful, along with distinct, novel guitar lines and a driving rhythm section make Pizza Crunch one of Glasgow’s most exciting exports.
After a steady stream of releases garnered attention from BBC 6 Radio Music, the group played a string of sold out shows at venues like The Hug and Pint and King Tuts in Glasgow. This preempted shows further a field at Left of the Dial in Rotterdam and Stockton Calling.
Following a year of home-recording and collaborations with established producers, the band are ready to unveil a new project that is much more explorative in sound than their previous releases. The first release from this project was in the form of single 'Young Excitement', which found itself on Steve Lamacq's New Music Fix and several Spotify editorial playlists. The group continued the momentum with next track 'Wilting Youth'.
The group are playing a colourful array of dates this summer, including headline shows in Manchester, Inverness, London, Newcastle and King Tuts Theatre in Glasgow.
