“one of the most prominent new bands in the UK” Guitar / "Strikingly Original" Metro
“A ferocious five-piece” Mary Anne Hobbs / "F*cking Brilliant" Shaun Keaveny
Following on from 2022’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘World To Me’, Tyneside’s Pit Pony return with new music. With glowing reviews, sell out shows, and a loyal following under their belt, the band are back with new single ‘Accidental Doom’, a message to those who judge people on the surface and a reminder to think before you speak. Accidental Doom sees the band at their forceful best, thrashing highs and intriguing lows, with singer Jackie shooting from the hip, reflecting on what it’s like to be centre stage as a woman in music.
On the track’s themes Jackie explained “This song is about judging people on what you see. I suppose anything you do in the public eye to ‘put yourself out there’ invites it, but it doesn’t make it any easier to read or hear comments based solely on what people see on stage or on screen. It’s not your whole self.”
Jackie expands on the track further “A lot of the time people mean well by making comments or make flippant remarks that they don’t think anything of, but sometimes they really land. As a woman in music I get a lot more comments directed at or to me than the rest of the band. Remarks about what I wear, what I look like, all things that I have never heard mentioned in relation to my bandmates. I wanted to write a song to remind people to be kind and think before they speak or type. It doesn’t take much to pause before you jump into sharing an opinion.”
As part of the release, Pit Pony are releasing a limited edition 7” single which will include previously unheard track Fuzzy, the only place the track will be available to hear. With Accidental Doom, the band continue to fuse adrenaline fuelled soundtracks for vocalist Jackie to explore challenging topics, with debut album World To Me telling tales of political ineptitude, mental health, motherhood and failed relationships.
The band have received acclaim from The Metro, The Daily Mirror, Guitar magazine, God Is In The TV, Louder Than War, Classic Rock and more with further support from BBC Radio 1, BBC6 Music, Radio X, Amazing Radio with DJs including Steve Lamacq, Mary Anne Hobbs, Shaun Keaveny, Huw Stephens and John Kennedy getting on board. Fresh off this wave, the band returned to the studio to work on new music, forging a broader more diverse sound.
2022 saw the band complete two UK tours, and 2023 kicked off with a 300 capacity sold out show at Newcastle’s The Cluny. Pit Pony have supported IDLES at a sold out 1,000 cap Newcastle date, The Wedding Present at the O2 Academy in Leeds as well as playing slots with The Futureheads, PigsX7 and LIFE.
The band have been supported by the PPL Momentum Fund to record their new material. Accidental Doom is released on Clue Records (Bored At My Grandmas House, Treeboy & Arc, The Wedding Present, YOWL, LYR) and in partnership with EMI North.
