Norwich-based post-hardcore outfit Other Half have reveal the new video for latest AA side single ’Like A Dog’/‘Slab Thick’, out now via all good DSPs.
Never ones to be afraid of showing off the dual aspects of their “nasty music for nice people”, the video sees the three-piece rip through a raucous live performance before showing their softer side for the second half as they snuggle up to their mates' pets Daisy, Lily, Henry, Rickly and Mung.
Commenting on the video, the band say: “BSM wanted a high-concept, high-production pop video to help shift some serious units so we wrangled the few dogs we know and the one cat we own to produce three and a half minutes of visual magic.”
“We like doing everything ourselves; for DIY punk kudos and because we’re tight and awkward, so it was fun figuring out how to make it look like we’re all playing in a room together even when one of us was filming the whole time."
“For the second part of the video we had next to nothing and were filming some pretty shudder-inducing stuff in the local park when our friend’s Roya and Charlie walked past with their dogs; Daisy and Lily. Never one to miss a free opportunity for content, we scooped those dogs up, spun around a bit and sung at the camera. Rinse, repeat and the rest is history. Thanks to all the nice animals that starred alongside us.”
The band recently announced that they have signed to Big Scary Monsters (American Football, Cursive, The Get Up Kids, Meat Wave) and will release their forthcoming second album Soft Action on 2nd December 2022, with the lead singles already drawing praise from Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, Distorted Sound and more.

A record that finds Other Half distilling the sneering punk and sardonic storytelling that characterised their first album, Soft Action amplifies the most melodic and dissonant parts of their sound. The discordant squall of Sonic Youth, the ragged hooks of Pixies and the searing intensity of bands like Converge, all underpinned with the wiry vocal interplay of singers Cal and Soapy.
Completing their recent Revive Live tour with new labelmates Cultdreams in August 2022 and preparing for a busy 12 months of touring over the coming year, the trio hit the road on a run of UK co-headline tour dates with Modern Rituals this November 2022.

More info:
For the uninitiated, band members Cal, Alfie and Soapy first met through a mutual love of the UK DIY punk scene, driving a really long way to shout at people, and (broadly) vegan slop.
The band released their debut album, Big Twenty, via Venn Records (Gallows, Bob Vylan, Marmozets & more) in 2020. A sprawling, violent slice-of-life, the release garnered praise from various outlets, with The Line Of Best Fit calling Big Twenty’s vivid world “volatile and dark, but also enthralling to hear”.
The album also saw a swell of support from Daniel P Carter’s Radio One Rock Show, Jack Saunders on the Radio One Indie Show, Kerrang! Radio and Triple J’s Short.Fast.Loud, as well as coverage from Kerrang! Magazine, CLASH Magazine, Louder Than War, Vive Le Rock and more.
The trio most recently released a split 7” with Brighton heavy punks Negative Measures in August as their last release through Venn Records, with the band now setting their sights on the release of their forthcoming second album, Soft Action, via new label home Big Scary Monsters.
Live, the band draw from the energy of post-hardcore luminaries like Drive Like Jehu and Fugazi, whilst never straying too far from the hooks of bands like Superchunk and Les Say Fav.
Other Half have performed at The Fest, Florida, and Pouzza Fest, Montreal, and have toured mainland Europe and the UK with Dikembe, Church Girls and Ducking Punches, also sharing the stage with a who’s-who of the UK punk and alternative scene including Meat Wave, Jamie Lenman, PUP, Pinegrove, Front Bottoms, Part Chimp, Bob Vylan, Johnny Foreigner, Joe Talbot (IDLES) and Lemuria.
