"Nice bit of weirdo pop" - Anthony Fantano
"Spiked with melodrama" - Brooklyn Vegan
"A decadent style of synth pop layered with crooned vocals, sardonic charm, and off-kilter melodicism." - Under the Radar
"All too relatable" - BBC introducing
Praised by Anthony Fantano (The Needle Drop) as a "Funky Boy", Oliver Marson's music exists in the same vein as art rock bands like Sparks, Pulp and more contemporary artists like Alex Cameron, Kirin J Callinan and Connan Mockasin. His signature croon, energetic shows and satirical lyrics commenting on the grisly truths of 2020s Britain have earned him a cult following in the UK. After, supporting bands like The Big Pink, Minimal Schlager, Ghum, Moreish Idols, Tempers and IST IST, his latest work features collaboration with Jorge Elbrecht (Ariel Pink, Japanese Breakfast) and Charles Cave from White Lies. His music has also been featured on Loud and Quiet, Brooklyn Vegan, Under the Radar, the Amazing Radio A-list, Hard of Hearing, Postpunk.com, BBC introducing and Fresh on the net.
His latest work "Blue Dreams" is another song in a line of Marson’s glossy-black comedies, with issues around toxic masculinity and elite corruptions being tackled in previous efforts. Described by Fantano as a nice little weirdo pop ballad, Marson dreams of a violent escape from the drudging 9 to 5, where Marson burns down his place of work and flees for the Seychelles. Videos have been directed by Ben Jeggolet (HMLTD) and Humble (Walt Disco).
