Old Fire is a collaborative project helmed by Texas-based producer and programmer John Mark Lapham. Lapham was one of the core members of transatlantic sonic experimentalists, The Earlies, and one half of the 4AD recording project, The Late Cord.
After the dissolution of The Late Cord, Lapham took his ideas he had for what would have been their full length follow-up and decided to work with a myriad of instrumentalists and singers. The result was Old Fire’s 2016 release “Songs From the Haunted South", an album that took ten years to realize. From there, he produced music as one quarter of the band, MIEN, with Alex Maas from the Black Angels, Rishi Dhir from Elephant Stone, and Tom Furse from The Horrors. Throughout all of this, Lapham has been planting seeds for his follow-up Old Fire album entitled "Voids." This time around he is working with a new group of vocalists including Texas troubadour Bill Callahan, Emily Cross from Sub Pop signing, Loma, Adam Torres, and Julia Holter along with collaborating with a diverse group of musicians including Thor Harris (Swans), Robin Allender (Gravenhurst), fellow Western Vinyl artist Joseph Shabason, Christian Madden (The Earlies/Liam Gallagher), pedal steel legend Bob Hoffnar, amongst many others. The full length album is out now on Western Vinyl.
