city: Wellington"Long Way To Go," the debut single from Nik Brinkman’s upcoming album World Within, delves into feelings of isolation, homesickness and heartache after relocating to a new city. Recorded during the Christmas period in a quiet town on the Kāpiti Coast in New Zealand, the song captures a live sound that feels vulnerable, fearless and sincere. “I wanted to escape the world of modern music tools for this album and make a record with no MIDI and also an album I could easily translate to a live setting. I like the immediacy of physical instruments and not having to draw sounds in with a mouse which I always find myself doing these days” Nik says.
Co-produced by longtime collaborator Emanuel Lundgren (I’m From Barcelona, Loney Dear), and featuring Alistair Deverick (Boycrush) on drums, Long Way To Go marks the beginning of a brand new chapter for Nik Brinkman.
After spending years in bands, signing publishing deals, touring with the likes of Beach House, Ladyhawke, Foster The People and writing pop songs for solo artists - Nik has returned to the simplicity of crafting guitar based songs, an approach that feels most authentic to him.
Out January 9th on Declared Goods / Fine Arts.
