Toronto-born, Berlin-based Composer, DJ & Producer Nathan Micay, has a background in classical and folk music. He fell in love with UK dance music in the post-dubstep 2010s, gaining early support for his impeccable craft. Across critically received records for AD93 and LUCKYME, Micay toured the world, soundtracking a few Summers. In 2020 he upped his own ante; writing his first original score for HBO's 'Industry'. His music typified by melody and spacious sound design: he evolves the once-futuristic sound of 1980s film into truly contemporary dance music. Where many in his field embrace the robotic tendencies of electronics - Nathan Micay is concerned with the human, creating widescreen frames onto which we can project our stories. In the sweet-spot between trance, techno, hardcore, jungle, IDM and ambient, his second album 'Blue Spring' explored the cycles of youth and music in times of fast change and upheaval. It takes the Castlemorton clash between ravers and authorities as its starting point, and transposes to an imaginary world.
For 2021's Industry OST he wrote a soaring soundtrack which sympathises with young graduates entering the ugly world of London finance: their ego and pomposity writ large across broad celestial synthetic minimalism. Through clever gestures he created a realistic sound for the characters lives: the backdrop to their late night hedonism. And also spoke to the slow destruction of their sense of self within a system beyond our control.
