Financial Times
“Melin Melyn provide entertainment in its purest form, and with no disrespect to other acts, it’s hard to imagine many others being able to pull it off in quite the same way.”

Today, critically acclaimed Welsh six-piece Melin Melyn share their independently released new EP “Happy Gathering”. This comes fresh from their live session with Marc Riley on BBC 6Music, and being announced as one of The Great Escape’s First Fifty Acts. The band will play at Oslo, Hackney on Nov 15th.
Produced and mixed by Llŷr Pari with additional engineering from Tom Rees (Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard), “Happy Gathering” features some of lead singer and chief songwriter Gruff Glyn’s most enigmatic, and idiosyncratic to date, touching everything from the customer service of energy suppliers on surf rock jam Hold The Line, and mediaeval Welsh princes on the haunting folk-rock tune “Nefoedd yr Adar”. Melin Melyn’s kaleidoscopic lense is often off-kilter, creating their own musical universe, and welcoming listeners into their “Happy Gathering”.
Also included on the EP are two new tracks, the fast paced rocker “Two For One”, and melancholic alt.country track “What Was That?”. “Happy Gathering” is a diverse statement for a band able to straddle multiple genres and styles with ease.
Their explosive and effervescent live shows are also lauded, once again being a highlight of Green Man Festival 2022, playing to four thousand people in a homecoming show that was praised by The Guardian, NME, So Young, Gigwise and more for it’s technical prowess, energy and theatrical elements, incorporating a dancing bird and on-stage painter to their already expansive live set-up. They have also recently received praise from fellow country man Gruff Rhys, who they recently supported at his Ara Deg festival.
The release of their debut EP “Blomonj” last summer saw Melin Melyn quickly become one of the most talked about artists’ to emerge from this new generation of Cymru music. Praised both critically and by their peers, the band have already developed a cult-like following of both Welsh & English speakers.
Since its release, the band have gone from strength to strength, from their sold out London & Cardiff headline shows, being selected as ones to watch by NME & The Independent and having supported fellow countrymen Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard on their first UK tour.
